Taking drum lessons for seven years with four different drum teachers Sheldon became musically literate on the drums before graduating high school. While in high school he was involved in a class called School of Rock, ran by Wes Reamsbottom. He took this class in grades 10 and 11 then student aided it in his grade 12 year. During this time he played drums for six different bands including another band out of school. In the summer 2011 he went to Berklee School of Music in Boson, MA for a week long summer percussion program where he studied rock and fusion. After graduating, Sheldon moved on to study percussion at VCC School of Music in Vancouver where he studied drums under Craig Scot. In his first year Sheldon was introduced to playing jazz, he played in a pre-bop jazz band instructed by Alan Matheson. In Alans pre-bop class Sheldon performed numerous jazz shows including two swing dance halls. Out side of school Sheldon's main focus in his alternative rock duo JVR & the Bomber. Sheldon is greatly influenced by drummers suck as Carter Beauford from Dave Matthews Band, Larnell Lewis, Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stewart Copeland from the Police, John Bonham from Led Zeppelin, Nathan Followill from Kings of Leon, Jack Bevan from Foals, as well as many other. In an interview with Sheldon he said, "stealing from a single musician is plagiarism, stealing from many is original."
